  1. Step 1

Make sure you meet all the state requirements!

    • Be 18 years of age or older
    • Be honest and truthful
  2. Step 2

Register and complete 135 hours of required pre-licensing education from a California Department of Real Estate approved course provider

    • You must take Real Estate Practices, Real Estate Principles, and at least one of the approved elective courses, including Finance, Appraisal, Accounting, Economics, Property Management, Legal Aspects of Real Estate, Office Administration, Business Law, Escrows, Mortgage Loan Brokering and Lending, Computer Applications in Real Estate, or Common Interest Developments
  3. Step 3

Complete your Salesperson exam and licensing application

Once you've completed the required pre-licensing education you can apply for your licensing exam! The application process includes the application form, paying the fees, and — for first-time applicants — submitting your fingerprints! Don't worry, Premier Courses can help you navigate the paperwork!

This is important! You MUST pass the exam within 2 years of your application being accepted or the application and fee will expire!

  4. Step 4

Take and Pass the California Salesperson License Exam

To pass the test you'll need a minimum score of 70% or better! But don't worry, you're going to ace it!

  5. Step 5

Choose a broker to hang your license with!

Once you pass the test you're officially a real estate agent! To get started building your business you need to pick a brokerage that matches your needs and expectations.

Which California course do I need?

If you don't have a license yet, you need the 135-hour pre-licensing package — Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice and Legal Aspects of Real Estate. Once you're licensed, California renews on a four-year cycle with 45 hours of continuing education.

What is required to qualify for a real estate license?

To qualify for a California real estate salesperson license, applicants must meet the requirements established by the California Department of Real Estate (DRE).

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be honest and truthful

A conviction for a crime may result in the denial of a license. Failure to disclose a criminal conviction or disciplinary action may also result in denial of a license.

Applicants do not need to be California residents. Out-of-state applicants must comply with additional requirements established by the California Department of Real Estate.

How long do I have to finish a course?

The courses must be completed within six months of registration. If you are unable to complete the courses within the six month period, Premier Courses offers extensions for an additional fee.

Is Premier Courses approved by the California Department of Real Estate?

Yes, each of Premier Courses' 45 hour online real estate pre-license courses are approved by the California Department of Real Estate (DRE Sponsor #S0717). That means our 135-hour real estate offering will fulfill all your real estate pre-licensing education requirements.

All applicants are required to pass the course and the final exam before they can sign up to take the California real estate exam.
