Exam prep is supplemental study material. It carries no credit hours and does not satisfy the California DRE's 135-hour pre-licensing requirement or any continuing-education requirement. Exam prep is delivered online through our learning platform; purchase and access are completed in your online student portal. The California salesperson examination is applied for and scheduled separately with the DRE.

No. What the California Department of Real Estate requires is the 135 hours of pre-licensing education — Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice and one approved elective. Exam prep carries no credit hours and isn't part of that requirement.
It's study material: a way to find out what you actually know before the DRE does. If you haven't started your required hours yet, begin there — California pre-licensing.
The salesperson examination is 150 multiple-choice questions and you're given 3 hours to complete it. You need to answer at least 70% of the questions correctly to pass.
Because the exam is qualifying in nature, candidates who pass aren't told their final score. If you don't pass, you'll be told your score and the percentage you answered correctly in each subject area.

You can apply to re-take the examination once you've been notified that you didn't pass, and there's a $100 exam fee for each attempt.
Wait for your results before re-applying — the DRE asks you not to submit a new application or try to obtain a new exam date beforehand, and doing so can get your exam record flagged and your results withheld.

Exam prep isn't submitted for California Department of Real Estate course approval, because it isn't offered for credit. It awards no statutory, pre-license or continuing-education hours, and completing it doesn't change your standing with the DRE.

Yes. Exam prep sits on top of the required education — it never replaces it. You'll still need to complete all 135 DRE-required hours and pass each course final before you can apply to sit the salesperson exam.
