63 hours

Pre-Licensing

Who it's for

Anyone getting their first Florida real estate license. No license or industry experience needed — just the state eligibility requirements.

What it does

Satisfies the full FREC 63-hour requirement and its end-of-course exam, which is what makes you eligible to sit for the state exam.

$125–$3403 packagesSee courses & pricing
45 hours

Post-Licensing

Who it's for

Newly licensed sales associates who have passed the state exam but have not yet reached their first renewal.

What it does

Completes the one-time 45-hour requirement due before your first renewal. This is a different requirement from continuing education, and it only happens once.

14 hours

Continuing Education

Who it's for

Licensees who have already finished post-licensing and are renewing an active license for the second time or beyond.

What it does

Covers the 14 hours FREC requires each renewal cycle to keep an active license current. Recurs every cycle, unlike post-licensing.

28 hours

Reactivation

Who it's for

Sales associates whose license has been involuntarily inactive for more than 12 months.

What it does

The 28-hour course FREC requires to bring an involuntarily inactive license back to active. Take this instead of CE when your license has lapsed into inactive status.

Your step-by-step path

How to become a Real Estate Sales Associate in Florida

The full path from no license to an active Florida sales associate license.

  1. Step 1

Make sure you meet all the state requirements!

    • Be 18 years of age or older
    • Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
    • Have a United States Social Security number
    • Be honest and truthful
  2. Step 2

Register and complete the 63-hour pre-licensing course from a Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) approved course provider

    • You must complete the state-required 63-hour Sales Associate pre-licensing course, covering real estate principles, practices, and Florida license law, and pass the end-of-course exam with a score of 70% or better
  3. Step 3

Complete your Sales Associate exam and licensing application

Once you've completed the required pre-licensing education you can apply for your licensing exam! The application process includes submitting your application to the Florida DBPR, paying the fees, and getting your electronic fingerprints taken for the background check! Don't worry, Premier Courses can help you navigate the paperwork!

This is important! You MUST pass the state exam within 2 years of completing your pre-licensing course, or the course expires and you’ll have to take it again!

  4. Step 4

Take and Pass the Florida Sales Associate License Exam

The state exam is administered by Pearson VUE. To pass the test you'll need a score of 75% or better! But don't worry, you're going to ace it!

  5. Step 5

Choose a broker to activate your license with!

Once you pass the test you're officially a real estate sales associate! Your license is issued in inactive status until you affiliate with a licensed Florida broker — so pick a brokerage that matches your needs and expectations, activate your license, and start building your business.

Florida FAQ

Which course do I need?

Still unsure? Our support team answers Monday–Friday, 10am–4pm PST.

Which Florida course do I need?

It depends where you are in your career. If you don't have a license yet, you need the 63-hour pre-licensing course. If you've passed the state exam but haven't renewed yet, you need 45-hour post-licensing. If you've already done post-licensing and are renewing again, you need 14 hours of continuing education. And if your license has been involuntarily inactive for more than 12 months, you need the 28-hour reactivation course.

What's the difference between post-licensing and continuing education?

Post-licensing is a one-time, 45-hour requirement that must be completed before your very first renewal as a sales associate. Continuing education is the recurring 14-hour requirement that applies to every renewal cycle after that.

They are not interchangeable — completing CE does not satisfy post-licensing, and a new licensee who takes CE instead of post-licensing will still be short of the requirement.

Do I need the reactivation course or continuing education?

If your license is currently active and you're simply renewing, you need continuing education. If your license has been involuntarily inactive for more than 12 months, the 28-hour reactivation course is what FREC requires to bring it back to active status.

If it has been inactive for less than 12 months, continuing education is generally what's required instead.

How long do I have to finish a course?

Courses must be completed within six months of registration. If you need longer, Premier Courses offers extensions for an additional fee.
